What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a real job with training so you can earn while you learn.

What are the advantages of an apprenticeship?

Will I have my own trainer?

Yes, you will be allocated a Trainer. This will be the same Trainer that completes your initial assessment with you. They will support you and deliver planned training and assessment to guide you through your qualification. They will assist you in putting together your portfolio of evidence.

Is all training carried out in the work place?

Yes!! All training will be conducted whilst you are at work and you will be assessed in the workplace and/or via e learning.

Do I have to do homework?

Not exactly homework, but you will be expected to complete some assignments, personal statements and collect evidence to prove competency, this will be discussed in more detail when you meet your Trainer

What if I decide to change my job/employer?

That is not a problem. The qualification you will be working towards belongs to you and you can carry it forward to a new job at any time. However, this will be dependent on it being a similar job role.
If the new job role is significantly different, we can change the programme of training to one more suitable or alternatively if we cannot offer a suitable programme, we shall refer you to a suitable provider. This will be with the agreement of the new employer.

Are there any penalties for not completing?

No, but you would not get a completion certificate that could help with your future career opportunities.

I have a degree, can a university graduate do an apprenticeship?

From May 2017 graduates are able to start Apprenticeship programmes.

Do I get paid?

The current minimum wage for an apprentice is £4.81 per hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. You must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for your age is you are an apprentice aged 19 or over and have completed your first year. Davidson Training encourages employers to pay £200 per week.

I already have a job, can I still do an apprenticeship?

If you are currently working, you can become an apprentice if your employer agrees.

Do I have to pay anything to be an apprentice?

While you are on an apprenticeship, you won’t need to pay anything as your employer pays you a salary and will support you whilst you undertake your training.

What are my rights as an apprentice?

As an apprentice, you have the same rights as other employees within your organisation.

Do I choose where to work?

Accepting a job offer from an employer for a apprenticeships role will be your decision.
You need to apply for our vacancies and go through the Davidson Training selection process and if suitable, you will be asked to attend an interview with an employer (you choose the roles you think it would be suitable for you) and if successful, you will be offered a position.
